Participants in this fast-paced workshop will experiment with a multitude of handbuilding, texturing, glazing, and detailing techniques as they create their own expressive figurative sculptures in one week. Students will quickly explore hollow-form handbuilding techniques, creating small sample figures on which to experiment with layers of low to mid-temperature underglazes, slips and glazes. Students will then build one larger (12 – 18”) figure that will provide the opportunity for more detail and personal expression. Participants will gain an appreciation for how Janis’ life experiences have shaped her artwork, while learning to translate their own life events into richly detailed, imaginative figures in clay.
