Passing Through (2017) by Janis Mars Wunderlich is a ceramic sculpture which celebrates the complex emotions and vulnerabilities of a mother, who focuses her brilliant energy on her children, only to one day watch them paddle off in search of their own adventure. When they were small in her arms the time dragged on, but as they leave, it seems as if their entry and exit were almost simultaneous. Their absence initially brings emptiness, but all at once, she awakens to birds swirling around her, signaling her transformation as she realigns her brilliant energy in a new direction.
